We exists to deliver honest, seamless river days that feel timeless - low pressure, high patience, and dialed guide work - so clients can relax, learn, and fish with intention.

Based out of Bozeman, Montana, Flyshot Outfitters is a guide service dedicated to the simple joy of a great day on the water.

Owned and operated by David Kern - guiding since 2012 and a licensed Montana Outfitter (#29575) - we spend our days floating and wading the Madison, Yellowstone, and Gallatin rivers.

We offer an experience that lets you unplug, step into the boat, and just fish.

Honest, Low-Pressure Guided Fly Fishing Trips

Flyshot Outfitters was born from a lifelong love of the water. David grew up fishing at his family’s cabin, knowing early on that he wanted to build a life in the fishing industry. When we started this outfitting business, we didn't just want to row boats; we wanted to build our days around the type of fishing we actually love to do. That means low pressure, high patience, and taking things at a good pace.

A guided trip shouldn't feel like a stressful casting marathon where everyone is just watching the clock and keeping score. We believe the best days on the river are relaxed, fun, and focused on the whole experience. Whether you’re working on throwing streamers for bigger trout or holding a fly rod for the very first time, our goal is patient instruction. We want you to enjoy the landscape, pick up some new skills, and fish with intention in Montana. You should step out of the boat at the end of the day feeling completely satisfied, not exhausted.

The Waters We Call Home

Guiding out of Bozeman gives us access to some incredible water, and we tailor every trip to the current conditions and what you want to get out of the day. As a proud MOGA member with up-to-date safety certifications, we ensure your day is as safe as it is productive.

  • The Madison River is our home water, offering everything from classic floats to great streamer fishing.

  • The Yellowstone River is a wild, unfiltered freestone river that we monitor closely to catch it at its prime through Paradise Valley and beyond.

  • The Gallatin River is our go-to for a quieter, more technical day close to town in the lower valley.

Family on the Water

Patience is the foundation of what we do, which makes introducing the next generation to fly fishing one of our favorite parts of the job. Many of our guides are parents themselves and know exactly how to keep things engaging and fun for kids. Every family is different, so we work with you to plan the right pace and trip length (such as our half-day trips) to make sure everyone has a great day.
